My First NED Role – Reg Gott

I joined FKI plc as MD of a small engineering business within one of its divisions. Over the next 6 years I progressed to Divisional MD then to Group MD and was then invited to join the Board as an Executive director. At the time FKI was a FTSE 250 company but I had no experience (and little idea) of how a listed company Board worked, so it was a steep learning curve.

A year or so later I started to receive approaches to consider NED opportunities. The Chairman and the CEO at the time both thought this would “broaden my education and make me a more effective Board member”. With their support and guidance I responded to selected approaches and commenced a NED role a year later. 18 years further on, I have retired from CEO roles (last one ended in 2016) and have pursued the portfolio NED route which I continue to find very fulfilling.

Reg Gott,
Portfolio Chair / NED including including Chair Filtronic plc – former CEO Nuaire Group Ltd
