My First NED Role – David Davies

For me it was all rather like the proverbial waiting for hours for a bus and then four come along all at once. Whilst still employed as a full time executive I came close to a number of NED opportunities but never quite got over the finishing line. Once it had been announced that I was retiring from my full time role then opportunities started to roll in and within 12 months of retiring I was on four public company boards.

Networking certainly helped and two of my positions undoubtedly arose with some input from former colleagues and business acquaintances with whom I had stayed in contact. The tried and tested head-hunter route remained the most fruitful avenue for me however.
