As career transition advisers for aspiring non-executive directors we are frequently asked about remuneration for such roles. The topic is a broad church. A key point is you should not be undertaking a role for the money. It is a valid argument that if you are hostage to the fees you earn your independence is comprised. However it is wise to be informed on current levels of remuneration.
Today KPMG published a survey of directors’ remuneration in AIM listed companies. Pages 17 and 18 cover non-executive director fees. The analysis against company turnover may help to provide some “rules of thumb”.
